What color is the dawn?

After completing the first movement of this cantata for the Choral Arts Initiative in Orange County, CA, I was so excited to continue writing what ultimately became a 30-minute work. Though the first movement portrays the experience of watching a South African sunrise, the later movements focused on human interactions, intercultural experience, and the connections we make though music. Choral Arts Initiative premiered the complete work on November 17, 2019.

Hat Trick

A new piano trio composed for the Atlantic Music Festival, where I spent a second summer as a Resident Artist Fellow in July 2019. In sports, a hat trick is when one player does something positive (e.g., scores a goal) three times in a single game. My Hat Trick is a virtuosic, dancing

piece for three players, in three parts, and is colored by Latin rhythms. I thought the name was particularly appropriate as I completed the score on the opening day of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup tournament.
