What color is the dawn?
After completing the first movement of this cantata for the Choral Arts Initiative in Orange County, CA, I was so excited to continue writing what ultimately became a 30-minute work. Though the first movement portrays the experience of watching a South African sunrise, the later movements focused on human interactions, intercultural experience, and the connections we make though music. Choral Arts Initiative premiered the complete work on November 17, 2019.
The Mystery of the
Missing Music
The music for the new world premiere is missing! Was it misplaced, or did somebody steal it? The idea for this project came out of a question I have been asking myself for a long time: what can we do to integrate music education with the wider school curriculum, and how can we use music to teach students about more than just music itself? Commissioned by the Pioneer Valley Symphony in Western Massachusetts, this 40 minute adventure for actors and chamber orchestra is fun for kids and adults alike, so follow the clues with our heroes, Jake and Gemma Nye, as they search for the missing music!
